IRISH SUSTAINABLE FILMMAKING MORNING

SPI Event
24 November 2021

SPI is proud to be working with its Green Screening coalition members (RTÉ / TG4 / Virgin Media Television / BAI / Screen Ireland) to offer a morning of discussion on Irish sustainable film making practices.

  • Date: Wednesday, 24 November 2021
  • Time: 10am via Zoom
  • Running Order:
10am | How to plan and implement a Carbon Action Plan
11:15am | albert carbon calculator training

The first panel will discuss albert Carbon Action Plans, now a requirement on all TG4 commissions and available for other funders projects, and their impact on a production.

The carbon action plan is designed for productions who not only want to measure their carbon footprint but actively take steps towards reducing it. albert assesses each carbon action plan received and selects a minimum of 10 actions at random for which the production must provide evidence to prove they have successfully completed these tasks.

Productions who successfully complete a carbon action plan will be awarded albert Certification which is in the form of a logo that can be added to a productions end board as a mark of their commitment to sustainability.

We are delighted that Léiriúchán RnR, who produce Ros na Rún, have agreed to talk about how they implemented a Carbon Action Plan on their long running series, and received albert sustainable certification. Louise Nic Risteard, production manager on Ros na Rún, will talk us through the steps they took as they planned their CAP, implemented the measures on set and the benefits of this work.

At 11:15am, Ellie McNamara from Screen Sustainability Ireland will lead albert carbon calculator webinar. She will walk you through how to set up a production on the calculator, what information you need to input and why, and how you can get your carbon emissions output for this production.

Using data you already have at your finger tips, the albert carbon calculator allows productions to quickly understand their environmental impact.

If you’re producing for BBC, ITV, Channel 4, UKTV, Sky, TG4 or Netflix, you’ll need to calculate your carbon footprint with us.

Simply provide some basic information about your production office, studio, travel, accommodation locations, materials used disposal and post-production, and the rest is, well… maths.
